Synopsis: A detailed autobiographical account of life in the Royal Navy before and during the 1914-18 World War. Beginning as a Naval Cadet in the training ship, Britannia , and leaving her in 1899 to join The Crescent as a midshipman, Commander Hartford attended the Naval College at Greenwich as a Sub Lieutenant, attained command at 21, and was then appointed to the Battleship, Formidable. After various commands his appointment to a destroyer in China during the 1911 Chinese revolution, preceded command of a Destroyer in World War I, with responsibility for patrolling and defending convoys. He retired in 1921. Condition: hard cover slightly discoloured:spine edges rubbed : age discolouration to endpapers, sporadic foxing throughout: overall clean and acceptable
