- Description: Cassell and Company, undated but believed circa 1890: two volumes, dark green hardcovers with decorative wildflower to front, decoration in black and gilt, and lettering in gilt. Fourth Series Volume contains 44 full-page tissue guarded coloured plates, 160 pages of descriptive text and 16 pages summarising the contents. Fifth series volume contains 40 full-page tissue guarded coloured plates, 160 pages of descriptive text , 16 pages summarising contents, index of English and index of botanical names , and a table of botanical orders and genera. Contents of the fourth series: -- corn mint, anemone, saw- wort, wood sorrell, heath or ling, hop trefoil, cross leaved heath, touch- me- not, red bartsia, mountain poppy, milk thistle, hairy St John's wort , corn blue- bottle, cow- wheat, orpine,meadow saxifrage, field scabious, stonecrop or wallpepper, tuberous pea, corn marigold,self-heal,charlock, small willow herb, feverfew, thrift, bladder Campion, lesser red rattle, water fig wort, sainfoin, rag wort, centuary, cross- wort, knotgrass, meadow saffron,fools parsely, bog asphodel , woodruff, kidney vetch, fumitory, broom rape. Contents of the fifth series:-- bellflower, sallow, holly, privet, spotted orchis, pink campion, spindle- tree, Buxbaum's speedwell, green hellebore, sea campion, furze, broadleaved plantain, teasel, tuberous moschatel, narrow leaved ever lasting pea, wild strawberry, upright meadow crowfoot, lambs tongue, common vetch, dewberry, henbit, field scorpion grass, butterfly orchis, wood loosestrife, yellow rocket, goose grass, cherry, water avens, marsh thistle, salad burnet, hound's tongue, carrot, dwarf thistle, water- cress, starwort, garlic mustard, bee orchis, groundsel, hemp -nettle, lady's mantle.
