• Description: Holy Bible, imprinted by Robert Barker, London 1608, bound with Book of Common Prayer undated , Concordance 1608, and Book of Psalms, 1635 by Thomas Sternhold, John Hopkins and others. Bound in heavy leather approx 1635. Some woodcut decoration including enhancement of first capital letters of Bible chapters. Contents : Four works bound as one: first The Book of Common Prayer lacking title and preliminary pages and with the first page of the collects glued to the front fixed endpaper: Second work The Holy Bible, with title page decorated with heart-shaped inset bearing text stating " the Bible translated according to the Ebrew and Greeke, and conferred with the best translation in diverse languages with small profitable annotations upon all the hard places, and other things of great importance, as may appear in the epistle to the reader. Imprinted at London by Robert Baker, printer to the king's most excellent Majesty 1608." Decorative small woodcut squares and ovals divided by names of the apostles and saints,enclose the heart, " Cum privelegio " inscribed lower border . Page entitled "Of the incomparable treasurer of the holy Scripture, with a prayer for the true vfe of the same" precedes The old Testament,The Apocrypha, and The New Testament, all printed in two columns in the old English font and with marginal notes . The Bible is followed by a Concordance entitled " Two right profitable and fruitful concordances , or large and ample tables alphabeticall" ending with woodcut decoration and "imprinted at London by Robert Baker, printer to the king's most excellent Majesty 1608". Finally the volume contains The Book of Psalms by Thomas Sternhold, John Hopkins and others,with title page inscribed "The Whole book of Psalmes collected into English meeter printed by A.G. for the Company of Stationers in London, 1635." Musical scores head many of the psalms . Condition: Edges of leather cover rubbed: upper section of back cover worn -- see photograph. End paper hinges re -enforced with brown tape: Page edges re-cut for binding, text and annotation intact, headings of Prayer book cut. Paper browned, with the occasional darker areas: some early ink inscription to page margins or spaces within text including name Mary Lambert,letters of the alphabet, and the occsional quill pen note . First page of Book of Daniel has small section of lower edge missing: small area of damage and dark discoloration to 10 pages including the Baruch in the Apocrypha. First page of chapter 24 of Deuteronomy has small tear and with small marginal section missing. Overall firm, clean, good and collectable.
