The author, Christopher Andrew is a Cambridge historian and presenter of historical documentaries on television. The co- author Oleg Gordievsky, former KGB colonel and resident designate in London at the time of his escape from the Soviet Union in 1985, had worked for British intelligence as the penetration agent inside the KGB from 1974, and was responsible for preparing a highly classified KGB history of its operations in Britain and other Western Countries.
