Synopsis: The absorbing memoirs of  Robert Hamilton Bruce Lockhart, 1887-1970,  Acting British Consul-General in Moscow during the 1917  Russian Revolution, and  the United Kingdom�s first envoy to the Bolsheviks  in January1918 .Lockhart´s eventful  career included an unsuccessful attempt  to introduce   a Japanese army onto Soviet territory to fight Germany on the Eastern Front, and suspected  implication ( together with  fellow British agent, Sidney Reilly), in a plot to assassinate Bolshevik leader, Vladimir Lenin in 1918 .  Although  imprisoned  in the Kremlin  under sentence of  death  , he was eventually  exchanged  for the Russian diplomat,  Maksim Maksimovich Litvinov.
