John G Winant , Ambassador of the United States to the Court of St James states in the foreword to this volume that " The Tennessee Valley Authority initiated regional planning on a scale never before attempted in history" The following chapters chronicle the results of their attempt. The Tennessee River ( a tributary of the Ohio shortly above the latter's confluence with the Ohio) drains most of the State of Tennessee and six other States. the Tennessee Valley Authority Act was passed in May 1933 , its purposes included structuring navigability, flood-control, reafforestation, the proper use of marginal lands, agricultural and industrial development, and by operating the Muscle Shoals chemical plant, national defence. The text , photographic illustrations and maps in "T V A Adventure in planning " combine to record its actions on water control and dam construction, soil regeneration , scientific farming, recreational resources, scenery ,tourist traffic, architecture and design, community life, housing and industry. The difficulties of large-scale government planning , and the hostility engendered is also examined, and a conclusion sums up the results. Condition:Clean and good overall: This copy was presented to H Willard Esq, on the 30th June 1944, when he relinquished his appointment as Food executive Officer for Welwyn Garden City. The signatures of the members of this committee are on a presentation panel on the front end paper.
