Accompanied by newspaper extracts headlining William Shotton's act as ' a boy captain's heroism'  (the Daily News)  ' a Sunderland youth's heroic conduct  – a ship stricken with fever  –death of captain and officers – the apprentices navigates the vessel'  (the Sunderland Echo)  'plague stricken ship – the crew attacked by Java Fever – a  sailor hero ' (The Melbourne Arms December 18, 1819 ) 'a boy captain – the crews of the Trafalgar – strange true tale of the sea' (Daily Chronicle London), this first edition of the author's  account of the journey has a hand written inscription to half title page "The Mrs Atkins with the  author's compliments and kindest regards, 25th of October 1895."  Condition: edges slightly rubbed :corners & spine ends  bumped:  slight fading and a few small marks to cover : ownership inscription to front end paper: some age discolouration to end papers: overall good and collectable. used books
