Volume 3 L. -- ASC, 799 pages plus description of the plates in  volume 3,  Gothic architecture,  illustrations of the progressive development in chief periods of English Gothic; Insects, illustrations of terms used in entomology; Mollusca, illustrations of classifications and terminology; Palaeontology, characteristic fossils of the chief geological formations.  Volume 4, SCR - ZTV, 795 pages plus description of the plates volume 4, Mammalia, illustration of terms relating to the structures and classification of mammals; Renaissance architecture, illustrations is of its characteristic features in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries.  Reptiles, illustrations of terms relating to reptiles and amphibia.  The four volumes are illustrated by more than 3000 engravings printed in the text.
