Synopsis: An autobiographical account of the conception and development of a small zoo owned by the naturalist Grahame Dangerfield. Almost by accident, his four acre plot filled with large open air pens, aviaries , and an open air swimming pool constructed for seals. This account relates revealing personal observations of animal behavior; together with the difficulties of breeding and rearing wild birds and animals in captivity . Financial challenges , the sensitivities of neighbours, occasional conflict with the local authorities presented a constant challenge; but failed to stop him rearing copious new-born creatures by hand ( something achieved by few); and bottle -feeding tiny Scottish wildcats ( The first tamed in history) No matter how challenging nature became , Graham Dangerfield persevered, and chronicles the story of his successful contact with many species: among them sea gulls, owls, foxes, swans, dingoes , deer, falconry, badgers, wildcats, golden eagles, other birds of prey, and many others both from Britain and overseas . He maintained his privates zoo against the odds, battling to keep the animals healthy and well fed, but finally it became obvious that his zoo could not be maintained, and his animals were dispersed.
