- Description: Book Description: A Treatise of Human Nature, 1739-40,( re printed from the original edition in three volumes and edited with an analytical index by L A Selby- Bigge )presents David Humes comprehensive attempt to base philosophy on a new, observationally grounded study of human nature, is one of the most important texts in Western philosophy. It is also the focal point of current attempts to understand 18th-century western philosophy. The Treatise addresses many of the most fundamental philosophical issues: causation, existence, freedom and necessity, and morality. The volume also includes Humes: own abstract of the Treatise, a substantial introduction, extensive annotations, a glossary, a comprehensive index, and suggestions for further reading. --This text refers to the Paperback edition. : : Synopsis: Brickhouse and Smith argue, contrary to many modern interpretations of Platos Apology of Socrates, that Platos Socrates offers a sincere defence against the charges he faces. In doing so the book offers an exhaustive historical and philosophical interpretation of and commentary on Platos Apology. The authors demonstrate that Socrates moral and religious principles prohibit him from needlessly risking a negative vote at his trial. By providing a complete commentary, they show that each specific claim Socrates makes in the Apology can be construed as a sincere attempt to inform the jury of the truth and convince the jurors of his blamelessness. The effect of these two strategies is a novel interpretation of the Apology which sheds new light on various aspects of Socrates life and philosophy.Comments: cover stained -pages very clean and good
