Chadwick  reveals the elephant species  full of surprises,   intelligent and playful,  and similar  to humans , in the  practices  of  traveling in closely knit family groups , learning from each other , looking after the ill and elderly , mourning the dead , and communicating  through a vocabulary of audible and  subsonic sounds that add up to a surprisingly nuanced and expressive language .
