Contents include chapters entitled: – Western interests in the eastern carpet. Making a carpet. Tribal and domestic weavings. The cottage industry. Workshop or town carpets. Court carpets. Symbolism. Notes for buyers and sellers. A glossary containing  descriptions of tribal technique, diagrams of differing looms and weaving techniques, maps showing the distribution of  linguistic, nomadic and tribal groups associated with carpet weaving , and  the historical zone of interaction between the northern stock- rearing nomads and the southern urban- agricultural civilisations in Eurasia  and Southern Siberia conclude a richly illustrated text .
