Synopsis: The second edition of that dedicated to William Earl of Lonsdale K.G. in 1807, containing a wealth of detailed information on the Greek Civilisation and  presented in five sections entitled:  Book 1: Civil Government of the Athenians (Chapters 1  36), Book 2: Civil Government of the Lacedaemonians (Chapters 1  25),  Book 3: Religion of the Greeks (Chapters 1  25), Book 4: Military Affairs of the Greeks (Chapters 1  21), and Book 5: Private Life of the Greeks, (Chapters 1  26). The title page states the following:  ' Archaeologica Graeca or the Antiquities of Greece: being an account of the manners and customs of the Greeks, and relating to their Government, Games, Marriages, Music, Magistracy, Military and Naval Affairs, Divorces, Paintings, Laws, Funerals, Public Buildings, Judicial Proceedings, Dress, Domestic Employments, Harbours, Weights and Measures,  Exercises, Religion, Baths, Entertainment, etc etc. Chiefly designed to illustrate the Greek Classics by explaining words and phrases according to the rights and customs to which they refer. To which are prefixed a brief history of the Grecian states and biographical sketches of the principal Greek writers, by John Robinson D.D. Rector of Clifton, in the County of Westmorland.' Condition: cover edges rubbed: leather spine reattached and with lower and upper portions missing: ownership inscription dated 1832: front endpaper and title page hinges reinforced: stain from fold-in map to following page otherwise contents very clean : binding firm: overall acceptable /good and collectable used books
